LegislationCongressman Clay has an aggressive legislative agenda that advances the vital interests of the 1st Congressional District and the entire St. Louis region. In 2005, the Congressman successfully fought for increased transportation funding, enhanced federal support for community healthcare, and he was part of the bipartisan majority in the House that pushed to expand federally supported stem cell research. In 2006, some of the most interesting bills featured on the Congressman's legislative agenda include (H.R. 4471) a bill to ban predatory lending; (H.R. 4832) a bill to give federal support to the creation of electronic medical records and new healthcare technology; and (H.R. 452) a bill to authorize the Department of Interior to conduct a feasibility study regarding whether the St. Louis Soldiers Memorial should be designated as a Federal monument. H.CON.RES.195: Expressing the sense of Congress that a minute of silence should be observed annually at 11:00 a.m. on Veterans Day, November 11, in honor of the veterans of all United States wars and to memorialize those members of the Armed Forces who gave their lives in the defense of the United States. H.R.1596: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 2318 Woodson Road in St. Louis, Missouri, as the "Timothy Michael Gaffney Post Office Building". H.R.3107: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide a tax credit for property owners who remove lead-based paint hazards. H.R.3186: To establish and maintain geospatial preparedness for the Nation with the National Spatial Data Infrastructure and integrated applications and systems required for homeland security, national defense, electronic government, and for other purposes. H.R.4327: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 7450 Natural Bridge Road in St. Louis, Missouri, as the "Vitilas 'Veto' Reid Post Office Building." H.R.4756: To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to determine the suitability and feasibility of designating the Soldiers' Memorial Military Museum located in St. Louis, Missouri, as a unit of the National Park System. |
